Proprietor V. Trae Apodaca III Café Central opened in 1918 in Juarez, Mexico, electrifying a clientele of gamblers and cabaret-goers who quickly grew to expect the finest culinary experience in the region at this chic night spot. After Prohibition ended, Café Central migrated closer to the border, and finally crossed into downtown El Paso. It became known as Miguel's Central Café, known as a uniquely El Paso dining experience. In 1991, V. Trae Apodaca III became intrigued with the restaurant's potential, as well as the need for a chic bistro downtown, for travelers and locals alike. He created an elegant black and cream interior to set off his collection of original art, and restored some of the Café's old charm with an ornately gated New Orleans style courtyard. Today's Café Central combines innovative taste with 80-year-old traditions.
